SCB Leadership Title Updates

We are pleased to share that SCB’s Board of Trustees has conducted a review and determined that updating the leadership team’s job titles will provide greater clarity around our leadership structure.

– Alex Muirhead is now Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

– Kareena Cullen is now Operations Manager.

These changes bring SCB in line with the management structures of similar-sized organisations, ensuring our leadership structure reflects our scope of responsibility.

However, as you can see from this picture, some things in the workshop will never change! Certain service users will continue calling us whatever they like—whether it’s Big Boss and Little Boss, Boss No.1 and Boss No.2, or something else entirely! We’ll take it all in good humour!

While our titles are changing, our commitment to SCB, our service users, and our partners remains the same. These updates simply ensure clarity in how we represent SCB externally while continuing to provide the best support and services.

Exciting New Learning Opportunities with ASDAN at SCB!

At SCB, we are always looking for new ways to support and develop our service users, providing meaningful learning experiences that build confidence, independence, and practical skills. That’s why we are thrilled to announce that for the first time, we are introducing ASDAN courses into our workshop!

What is ASDAN?

ASDAN is a structured learning framework designed to support learners with additional needs, helping them develop skills in a way that is meaningful and accessible to them. The courses focus on practical, real-world learning, ensuring that participants can work towards achievable goals and showcase their skills in a variety of areas.

Our New ASDAN Courses

SCB service users have embarked on two exciting ASDAN programmes:

Employability Skills Development – This course helps learners develop workplace skills, including teamwork, problem-solving, communication, and resilience—key areas for anyone looking to gain confidence in a work environment.

World of Work: Manufacturing and Construction – Given SCB’s strong links with manufacturing, packaging, and fulfilment, this course allows our service users to apply their practical skills in real-world scenarios. It will support their learning journey and help them understand the processes involved in different industries.

Why This Matters

These courses offer an exciting opportunity for our service users to challenge themselves, gain recognition for their abilities, and take another step forward in their personal and professional development. Beyond that, it allows them to showcase the skills they already use every day at SCB and explore new learning areas that could open doors to further opportunities in the future.

We can’t wait to see how our service users progress through these courses and continue to learn, grow, and succeed in their own unique ways. Stay tuned for updates as they complete their first ASDAN learning milestones!

A Huge Thank You to HOBB Computer Services Ltd.

When we identified vulnerabilities in our IT systems that could have impacted our security as a care provider and charity, Pete Harbron, Director at Hobb Computer Services, stepped in to help. Pete has kindly offered ongoing IT support free of charge for any IT issues that arise and has massively improved our IT security—all for a fraction of the usual cost.

Gestures like this mean so much to a charity like SCB. Not only does it ensure our systems and confidential information are secure, but it also frees up funds that can be spent directly on activities and opportunities for our service users.

A Healthier Choice at SCB!

At this month’s Voice and Choice Council Meeting, our service users put forward a fantastic idea—introducing healthier snack options in the afternoons. They suggested they’d love to try some healthier choices, and we thought it was a brilliant idea!

To kick things off, we stocked up on a selection of fruit and rice cakes for everyone to try. As you can see from the happy faces all around, the feedback has been really positive!

Not only do these snacks taste great, but they also help avoid sugar spikes, meaning more energy and alertness throughout the afternoon instead of feeling sluggish and tired. A big well done to the Voice and Choice group for representing the voices of SCB and helping to make positive changes!

Celebrating 20 Incredible Years with Linda!

We are beyond thrilled to celebrate Linda’s 20-year work anniversary with SCB!

Over the years, Linda has been a fantastic contributor to the lives of every service user and staff member she has worked with, making a huge difference with her care, dedication, and passion.

As Winston Churchill so wisely said, “We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.” Linda, your 20 years of giving your time, energy, and compassion have shaped countless lives at SCB, and for that, we are deeply grateful.

On Thursday, we held a special presentation to honour Linda’s incredible milestone. It was heart warming to see our service users, many of whom have directly benefited from Linda’s hard work, express their thanks and appreciation during the celebration.

Although Linda has gradually reduced her working days in recent years, her energy and commitment have never diminished.

On the days she is with us, she continues to bring her enthusiasm and make a lasting impact.

From all the staff, service users, and trustees, past and present, we want to wish Linda a massive congratulations on this huge achievement!

Thank you, Linda, for everything you’ve done and continue to do—here’s to celebrating this amazing milestone!

A Wonderful Evening with the Rotary Club of Crewe & Nantwich Weaver

SCB Trustee Chairman Adam Mellor and Manager Alex Muirhead were honoured to be invited to a recent meeting of the Rotary Club of Crewe and Nantwich Weaver.

It was a pleasure to meet with members of the club, discuss the vital work SCB does, and learn more about the amazing contributions the Rotary Club makes to our community, including their dedication to promoting education and growing the local economy.

SCB and the Rotary Club have a long-standing partnership. Over the years, we’ve proudly supported their efforts by packaging Crocus Corms for the End Polio Now campaign and creating care packages for Ukrainian refugees.

In turn, the Rotary Club has supported SCB with countless fundraising efforts, including the purchase of our warm air blower—an essential item for keeping us cosy during the winter months!

As part of the evening, we were thrilled to be presented with a cheque for £525!

This incredible donation will go a long way in supporting the work we do for our service users.

A huge thank you to all the members of the Crewe & Nantwich Weaver Rotary Club for their generosity, past, present, and future.

We’re so grateful for your ongoing support and look forward to continuing this fantastic partnership.

A Surprise Visit from Santa at SCB!

We had a very special visitor at the workshop this Christmas — Santa himself! Thanks to Crewe Town FC, who told him all about the amazing work we do at SCB, Santa decided to drop by and deliver some presents to our incredible service users.

While he was here, Santa couldn’t resist taking a look at what we do and even had a go at some of the jobs himself! We have to say, with most of the year off, we think Santa would make a fantastic addition to our team in the future!

A massive thank you to Santa for spreading so much joy and to Crewe Town FC for arranging this magical visit.
