2015 Review
Can another year really be coming to an end? It only seems a few weeks ago that I was writing up last year’s notes, but then everything these days seems to happen at breakneck speed. 2015 has been a roller coaster of a year, with ever growing demands on time, new obstacles to overcome, and plates to keep spinning. At times it has felt like a real battle, but anything worth fighting for is never going to be easy. I believe passionately in the workshop and for what SCB seeks to provide and, therefore, will continue to champion our case in relevant circles.
Work throughput has steadily improved during the course of the last twelve months with regular customers increasing orders, plus some previous contacts returning with new challenges. This growth in regular work has meant we have been able to plan schedules more efficiently, which in turn has enabled service users to become more familiar with routines whilst still enjoying variety. All service users, without exception, have had the opportunity to trial new tasks, learn new skills, and receive dedicated instruction from staff on a one to one basis. It is now not unusual for service users to ask staff if they can try out new roles, when they become available, select tasks they wish to work on, from those that are on offer, or to ask for a change of role during the course of a day. This increase in confidence and belief in their own abilities has been a pleasure to observe, and an encouragement to staff to see individuals develop and grow.
Despite this upturn in work from our growing customer base we are always on the lookout for new challenges from businesses in the locality. If you outsource work, or feel you could use the services of SCB, please do get in touch. Not only will you be supporting a local charity, but also receive a first class service at a competitive price.
2016 will soon be upon us and bring with it its own challenges. As with the dawning of any new year let’s hope it is a good one and one in which SCB can attract new customers & supporters, whilst continuing to offer a unique facility to those in the area with learning difficulties.
All the best for the year ahead.
